Largo Medical Manufacturer Sports New Growth

A Largo companyĀ focused on a niche market is enjoyingĀ the fruits of itsĀ smaller scale efforts.

ConMed Linvatec, a medical manufacturerĀ ofĀ surgicalĀ products,Ā recently invested $2.8 million to renovateĀ aĀ 20,000-square-footĀ facility on itsĀ campus toĀ expandĀ its surgical trainingĀ efforts, whichĀ attract surgeons fromĀ aroundĀ the globe on a continualĀ basis. The expansionĀ will create jobs for clinicians interested inĀ training theĀ docs on the use of Linvatec’sĀ orthopedic tools in the new facility.

Danielle Ruiz, group manager for clinicalĀ and educational services for Conmed Linvatec,Ā attributes the company’s growth toĀ theĀ Linvatec branch’s focus on marketingĀ its orthopedicĀ products toĀ sports medicine professionals.

ā€œWe invested in new productĀ development,ā€ saysĀ Ruiz.Ā ā€œSports medicine specifically and in real termsĀ arthroscopicĀ surgery. At this location in Largo, we manufacture orthopedic andĀ poweredĀ surgical instruments and products.Ā We’re very specific. This has resulted in jobs across the country and moved a lotĀ of manufacturing jobs to Largo.

Ruiz saysĀ the new facilityĀ willĀ result in a handful of new jobs. ā€œWe’reĀ going to need clinical people,ā€ she says. ā€œPeople who understand orthopedic procedures and feel comfortableĀ training others.ā€

Ruiz saysĀ the company is committed to investing in its employees as well.Ā ā€œMuch of our growth can also be attributed toĀ investingĀ in internal employees through grants we got fromĀ the state, thanks to Pinellas Economic Development,Ā which helped us attain thoseĀ grants.ā€
