Calling All Volunteers: Clean-Up Event Strives To Keep Tampa Beautiful

The city of Tampa will hold its Fifth Annual Clean City Day on Saturday, March 12. The event runs from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and is filled with activities. Registered volunteers will be given a project and location to work.

“We have between 80-100 projects that range from new Tampa to south Tampa,” says Jim Pinkney of the City of Tampa — Clean City Division. Projects include beautification and roadside cleanups. Pinkney says the city of Tampa has been recognized by Readers Digest and Forbes as one of the cleanest cities, and this event will help keep it that way.

In addition to the cleanup projects, there will be a celebration at Raymond James Stadium beginning at 12:30 for the volunteers. At the celebration Mayor Pam Iorio will be on hand to thank all of the volunteers.

“Our event celebration will have approximately 20 booth vendors, live entertainment and each volunteer will receive a free T-shirt designed by the International Academy of Design and Technology,” says Pinkney. “Inside the stadium volunteers can enjoy Coca-Cola’s Football Town, a series of agility tests and activities, and get a tour of the pirate ship.”

Pinkney says several corporate sponsors make the event possible including Coca-Cola, the Tampa Sports Authority, and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The city expects to have 3,000-plus volunteers, however, Pinkney says they would love to have more.

“We need volunteers to register online through the city of Tampa’s website,” Pinkney says. “Volunteers are needed for all areas of the city to help make this event a success.”
