Clearwater Dolphin Story Hits The Big Screen

Winter, Clearwater Marine Aquarium’s most famous dolphin, will now have her own major motion picture from Warner Bros.-based Alcon Entertainment.

“We are excited to see Winter’s inspiring story reach the big screen,” says CMA CEO David Yates.

Almost five years ago, Winter was rescued off the east coast of Florida after being wrapped in a crab trap line at three months old. The accident resulted in the loss of Winter’s entire tail and two vertebrae. Typically dolphins die as a result of being trapped in crab trap lines, but luckily Winter defeated the odds and has healed, learned a new swim pattern and adjusted well to her prosthetic tail.

This story will be captured by Alcon Entertainment, and written and directed by Charles Martin Smith. Titled a “A Dolphin Tale,” the movie will share Winter’s inspiring true story with the world.

In addition to a major motion picture on the big screen, Winter also has a Nintendo DS video game,  iTunes song called “If Winter Can, I Can,” and a book published by Scholastic called, “Winter’s Tail: How One Little Dolphin Learned to Swim Again.”
