Stimulus Boosts USF Virus Research
Eastern Equine Encephalitis doesnāt get the same attention as swine flu, but it is far deadlier and much less understood. The illness, which some mosquitoes transmit, is the focus of University of South Florida professor Thomas Unnaschās research. Unnasch and his team are trying to find out which mosquitoes are capable of transmitting the disease to humans ā an important feat as Tampa Bayās suburbs encroach into insect-ridden wilderness.
In a time when funding for similar projects has all but dried up, a recent Federal Stimulus grant has helped Unnasch expand his research team. The grant has helped Unnasch expand his team, and thus do more complete research.
