The program helps increase the communications capacity of the organizations and nonprofits working in the area. The intended impact is for additional “solutions-oriented” media coverage, engagement and ultimately understanding of the community, resulting in awareness and investments that can contribute to the vitality and prosperity of the district.

Next-generation Florida farmers take on food challenges facing globe

“The average farmer is in the range of 60 to 70 years old, and eventually as time goes on, we will need younger people to step in,” says Arie Fry, a UF student studying agriculture. “By the year 2050, the world is projected to have 10 billion people, so how do you feed everybody? We need more farmers, and that demand for farmers is already here.”

With the support of eight local businesses in South Hillsborough, phase one of a wifi network enables about 100 families in Wimauma to access the internet. The goal is to make wifi available to 1,000 families.
