Hudson Hospital Named One Of Most Profitable In America
A recent list of America's Most Profitable Hospitals includes Hudson's Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point. The hospital made Forbes Magazine's list at #13 out of 25 hospitals ranked. Pasco EDC, Pasco Hernando Workforce Team Up To Create Jobs
Pasco Economic Development Council and Pasco Hernando Workforce Board/Career Central are teaming up to improve training and job creation.Pasco Hernando Workforce Board/Career Central approved a new contract with Pasco Economic Development Council that started on July 1. The partnership is to help attract companies to the area and improve training to meet employers' needs.There are many key points that the PEDC and workforce are going to be working on throughout the year. They are planning to reach out to the youth in the Pasco County career academics. PEDC and workforce are also planning various job fairs hosted by Career Central. The next one is on Sept. 14 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Spring Hill Career Central. Career Central is also working on assistance to professional placement network in coordinating speakers for meetings, focus groups with employers to evaluate services and entrepreneur classes. PEDC and Workforce plans to hold surveys to identify employee trends and training needs. They are also going to have a call program and visits to primary industries, develop networks for entrepreneurs to provide them technical assistance and encourage Pasco employers to use the job order and placement service through Career Central as well."2010 will be an exciting year for economic and workforce development," says Sean Malott, account executive of PEDC.PEDC is continuing to work on numerous projects, including, expansions of its workforce section of the website, assertively perusing state funded grants and training opportunities and it will also be improving their marketing efforts in supplying the Pasco business community with better services. Pasco Teen Headed To Greece For 2011 Special Olympics
Michael Tuason, an 18-year-old student at J.W. Mitchell High School, will compete in the 2011 Special Olympics World Games in Athens, Greece from June 25 through July 4.Tuason was randomly selected to compete after winning two gold medals in the 400 and 800 meter swim at the 2009 Florida Special Olympics. The New Port Richey resident has been training with local swim team the Pasco Piranhas for just over a year.Read the complete story.
Tampa Native’s Bible-Based Book Launches Movie, Website
A book begot a movie, a movie begot a community, and a community may beget a movement.That is the hope of St. Petersburg-based 33 Hope, LLC, a three-person core team with a three-pronged approach to marketing a message of hope. Tampa native Edward Flom wrote a Biblically-based book entitled Thirty Three: The Story of Hope that chronicles the years immediately following Christ's crucifixion. Flom says he was inspired by a child's reaction to seeing The Passion of the Christ, According to Flom, the boy asked his father, "But Daddy, what happened next?'" Flom helped answer through the book, published in January 2010.The child is the son of Flom's friend Kirk Berendes, who helped Flom get the word out about the book. William Whitacre, an entertainment attorney and investor, came aboard as the third member of the core team. Movie Producer/Writer Cristobal Krusen of Messenger Films wrote a screenplay based on the book, and Nashville music producer Dale Oliver produced its theme song, which is recorded by Christian band Jupiter Wind. Berendes launched a website and is hoping to build a social media campaign in support of the book and movie and the message they contain. Rich Hayes of Digital Lightbridge in New Port Richey created its logo."Think 'Faithbook,' " explains Berendes."It is our intent to attract a community of like-hearted individuals to this online environment to serve as the vanguard for the book and a pre-marketing push for future books and movies in the same genre and time period."All involved agree the movement is about hope. New Port Richey Girl Donates Backpacks To Gulf Coast Kids
In July, New Port Richey resident Sarah Mayer started collecting backpacks to donate to families with children affected by the Gulf Coast oil spill.The 11-year-old girl gathered 45 new and barely-used child-size backpacks with the help of friends, family, neighbors and members of her local church. The backpacks will be shipped to Louisiana courtesy of Certified Slings, a cargo and rigging manufacturer based in Tampa.Mayer's Girl Scout troop may plan on resuming the backpack drive when school starts in the fall.Read the complete story.
