Nurses On-Call For Job Fair, More Education

Nurse.com will be hosting a career fair, exclusively for registered nurses (RNs) on March 22 in Tampa. The fair will feature employers, nursing schools and free continuing education seminars.

“This event is for registered nurses, and students who are close to completing their degree in nursing,” says Megan Friedman of Nurse.com. “We will have over 20 exhibitors, and expect to have 300 attendees at the fair.”

Friedman says that the nursing fair is an important event for the community because there is a shortage of nurses in the healthcare field.

“The average age of a nurse out in the field today is in his or her 50s, and so these individuals will be retiring very soon,” says Friedman. “Within the next five to 10 years, the need for nurses is going to skyrocket. It is a very important profession for our society.”

While Friedman stresses the need for more nurses in the healthcare field, she cautions that this event is not for those who are mildly interested in becoming a nurse.

“Our career fair is designed to introduce experienced, licensed RNs to recruiters,” Friedman says. “Our exhibitors are looking to meet nurses who are currently licensed, have experience and are seasoned nursing students or new graduates looking for employment opportunities.”

Exhibitors attending the event include BayCare Health System, Moffitt Cancer Center, Lakeland Regional Medical Center, University Community Hospital and others.

The event will be held at the Double Tree Hotel Westshore, 4500 Cypress Street in Tampa on March 22 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nursing students and new graduates may not enter the exhibit hall until after 11 a.m. because the fair is restricted to licensed RNs before that time. Pre-registration is suggested but not required.
