More than 100 teachers applied for a position to this summer's Siemens Teachers as Researchers program at Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Tennessee.
Sarasota High School's Andrew Harshamn was one of just 20 teachers in the nation selected to participate in the two-week program.
The
STARs program is designed to give educators a chance to work with the nation's top scientists on projects focused on today's most innovative research.
Harshman, a University of South Florida graduate with a degree in chemical engineering, is the co-director of The Math Science and Technology program (MaST) at Sarasota High. The program gives students the necessary tools to conduct scientific research and present it in competitions.
