The Associated Press reports that Hillsborough County Schools are among the recipients of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation's biggest education grant in a decade, with the others being Memphis, Los Angeles and Pittsburgh.
Hillsborough was the recipient of the biggest chunk of the $290 million grant; the school district will receive $100 million. The money comes with the stipulation that the schools participate in an experimental program that aims to enhance teacher performance in classrooms. The program would include linking teacher pay to test score results and paying teachers to practice for one year before they can have classrooms of their own.
