Med Students Excel At FSU College Of Medicine Branch In Sarasota

The Sarasota branch campus of Florida State University's College of Medicine, established in 2005, is gaining recognition as one of the state's premiere medical programs.

Instead of the traditional route of spending their third and fourth years reporting to a team of doctors, medical students from FSU are sent to one of six regional campuses and two rural clinics in the state.

These regional campuses offer an unconventional learning experience for medical students by putting them in direct contact with a community physician who acts as their teacher.

Students in this program have far surpassed the national average for improvement, 7 points, between the first two steps of the U.S Medical Licensing Examination test with an average improvement of 17 points, according to the Sarasota Herald Tribune.
