Business Week reports that Florida Governor Charlie Crist announced Thursday that he hopes to double state funding for higher education over the next five years, thereby fostering a "knowledge economy."
The increase would start with a $100 million boost beginning July 1, the start of the next fiscal year. The funding would primarily go to science and technology programs.
The governor also said that he wanted to provide $185 million in funding toward economic development, which he says would go toward attracting research institutes and boost the space industry.
