Photo Slideshow: Get R.E.A.L., Tampa

Remember the first time you shared s’mores over a campfire? Cast a fishing line? Saw an alligator? Hiked in the woods? Pitched a tent? All of the traditional outdoor activities that girl and boy scouts often tackle together? Get R.E.A.L., a special outdoor program, exposes city kids to all those experiences and more.

Get R.E.A.L (Recreational & Environmental Adventures in Learning) is a a partnership between the City of Tampa Parks and Recreation Department and the Florida State Parks that introduces city kids from low-income families to the great outdoors.

In May, 20 kids participated in a three-day camping trip at the Hillsborough River State Park and learned how to set up tents, build a fire, fish and the importance of eating healthy food.
Watch a photo slideshow of the Get R.E.A.L. kids as they relax and fish the Hillsborough River and also learn about locally grown whole foods during Xtreme Cooking School presented by the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.
