Ringling Circus Returns To Tampa Bay, 235 Jobs

The Ringling Bros.Ā and Barnum & BaileyĀ circusĀ used toĀ come to theĀ Sarasota area every year to enjoy theĀ Florida sunshine. And nowĀ it looks as ifĀ it’s here to stay. So if you’ve ever wanted toĀ join the circus,Ā you may justĀ get your chance.

Feld Entertainment, producer of Ringling Bros.Ā and Barnum & Bailey as well asĀ Disney On Ice, Disney Live!, Monster Jam and other Feld Motor Sports brands, is relocatingĀ its headquarters fromĀ Vienna, VA, toĀ Ellenton, FL, over the next five years and bringing 235 new jobs toĀ the Tampa Bay area.Ā

ā€œThe circus has aĀ history in Southwest Florida,ā€ saysĀ Stephen Payne, Feld spokesperson.Ā ā€œThis isĀ where we used to do rehearsals.Ā But the rehearsal facilityĀ we currently haveĀ in PalmettoĀ won’t permit us to grow.Ā In 2008 we acquired aĀ motor sportsĀ division, which dramatically increased the size of the company and spurred new brands. But I think it also goes back to aĀ hunger in the U.S. and the world for families to enjoy entertainment together. Our shows offer that.ā€

The new facility, locatedĀ at 2001 N. U.S. 301, occupiesĀ 47 acres andĀ will allow Feld toĀ consolidate and houseĀ operations and productionĀ activitiesĀ thatĀ supportĀ Feld’sĀ globalĀ tours.Ā The site includes 100,000 square feet of office space with an additional 450,000 square feet of manufacturing space in two buildings.Ā The expansion will allow FeldĀ to retain 148 employees and hire an additional 235Ā to handleĀ a variety of high skill, high wageĀ jobs such asĀ scenic design, costumes, sound and lighting, as well as maintenance ofĀ theĀ circus train.

The move is made possible through a variety of grants and incentives totaling $3,779,734.Ā Incentives include $1,174,765 from theĀ state of Florida’sĀ Qualified Targeted Industry Fund, $650,000 from itsĀ QuickĀ Action Closing Fund, and $1,500,334 from the Manatee County Government.
