Public art will be a major part of the redesign at Perry Harvey Sr. Park and will honor the history of the black community and its musical heritage. Tampa City Council approved a $15,000 contract for Pittsburgh artist James Simon, who will create larger-than-life sculptures for the park's southern gateway.
Major donations will fund construction and build an endowment for the Gries Center for Arts and Sciences at Berkeley Preparatory School in Town 'N Country. Bob Gries, Jr., president of Gries investment Funds, is the lead donor with a gift of more than $4 million.
