Foundation for a Healthy St. Petersburg names Kanika Tomalin President and CEO

The Foundation for a Healthy St. Petersburg has named Kanika Tomalin as its new President and CEO.

Tomalin brings extensive leadership experience in the public and private sectors to the role. As the former Vice President of Strategic Planning & Public Affairs at Bayfront Health System, she was instrumental in the establishment of the nonprofit Foundation for a Healthy St. Petersburg following the sale of the health system.

The Foundation has since awarded millions of dollars in grants to local organizations, created the Center for Health Equity and partnered with community organizations to address health disparities and achieve health equity through the advancement of racial equity.  

Tomalin is currently Eckerd College’s Chief Operating Officer and Vice President for Strategy. She previously served eight years as Deputy Mayor for the City of St. Petersburg, including four as City Administrator. During her time with the city, she played a pivotal role in the establishment of the St. Petersburg Innovation District and the Healthy St. Pete initiative. She also worked to reduce poverty among the city’s African-American residents and helped guide the city’s response to the pandemic.

Tomalin will begin at the Foundation for a Healthy St. Petersburg in mid-June.
