A Moffitt Cancer Center doctor recently performed the first surgery of its kind in the U.S. on an 8-year-old girl from Iowa with osteosarcoma.
Josalyn Kaldenberg was scheduled to have her right arm amputated due to a cancerous tumor until her parents learned through their own Internet search about
Dr. G. Douglas Letson's work at
Moffitt.
Josalyn's humerus bone, shoulder and elbow joints were successfully replaced with a prosthetic at
Shriners Hospital for Children in Tampa, according to the
St. Petersburg Times.
