An upcoming camp in Hillsborough County is designed to stave off the summer slide in student learning while teaching children about Latin American culture.
Nonprofit educational group ReDefiners World Languages’ Spanish Language Immersion and Technology Program teaches children in kindergarten through fifth-grade opportunities to learn Latin American culture and the Spanish language while honing their technology skills.
"Our summer program provides a fun and educational environment for kids during the long summer months," ReDefiners World Languages Executive Director and founder Chantelle Daniels says in a press release. "It's a great way to prevent summer learning loss, keep children engaged and active, and provide an opportunity for kids to try new things and develop new interests, building confidence and independence.”
The camp runs June 5th through 30th at the Temple Terrace United Methodist Church, 5030 E Busch Blvd. The full-cost is $450. To make the program accessible to more children, ReDefiners offers income-based pricing starting at $180.
As a non-profit organization, we understand the financial burden that summer camps can bring to families,” Daniels says in a statement. “That's why we are proud to offer a cost-effective option.”
The Children’s Board of Hillsborough County, the local government agency that supports programs giving children a foundation for success, provides funding for the upcoming camp and other ReDefiners programs
“The ReDefiners Summer Program is successful at providing high-quality summer opportunities for youth and their families.” Children’s Board of Hillsborough County Executive Director Kelley Parris says in a press statement.
Parris says ReDefiners has “a significant impact” in increasing students’ knowledge of Spanish and technology and “provides invaluable experiences that result in a fun and safe summer.”
The theme of this year’s camp is” Vamos a Cuba!" and children will learn about food, culture and music through enrichment activities and field trips.
