Tampa Bay History Center, Others Win Urban Awards

The Tampa Bay History Center is among the winners of the third annual Urban Excellence Awards honoring projects and organizations that improve downtown Tampa.

The other winners, presented by the Tampa Downtown Partnership, include:

    •    The Arlington
    •    Healthy Together
    •    National Park(ing) Day 2009/SuperTest
    •    Picnic in the Park
    •    Tampa Bay Dragon Boat Institute

"It is exciting to have such an outstanding list of finalists from which to select the winners," says Richard Linquanti, partner at Carlton Fields, title sponsor of the awards program and chairman of the judges panel. "Downtown Tampa continues to develop into a true urban community and with this growth we see the best in creativity emerging from those who are right in the middle of all of the progress taking place in the city center."

Members of the independent judges panel included:
    •    Jose Bello, Shooting Stars Post
    •    Santiago Corrada, City of Tampa
    •    Michael English, WilsonMiller
    •    Joyce Fisk, Tampa Bay & Company
    •    Robin Nigh, City of Tampa

The Awards featured 28 finalists, who were also recognized for their unique contributions to downtown. Those included the University of Tampa, Friends of the Riverwalk and Tampa River Taxi.
