Global Organic Specialty Source, Inc., a wholesale distributor of organic produce is relocating from Manatee County to Sarasota, and will be hiring employees over the next five years to support the company's growth. Currently, the company has offices in Miami and Manatee County, however with the relocation, operations will be combined at a larger facility located at 6284 Mcintosh Road.
“We are moving into a facility that is almost quadruple our current space,” says Ronni Blumenthal, VP of administration for
Global Organic Specialty Source. “Sarasota has a national reputation for having such a progressive focus on sustainability and green business. When we were shown a facility that had all of the components we needed, including much closer proximity to the interstate, we all breathed a collective sigh of relief.”
Square footage is not the only number increasing at the company, headcount will be going up as well.
“We see great opportunities for diversification so I like to say that we will be hiring at least 62 people over the next five years,” Blumenthal says. “We have several positions we will be looking to fill immediately, and then we will phase in the others in conjunction with our business plan.”
Positions the company will be hiring for include production, quality control, purchasing, sales and accounting. According to Blumenthal, the need for additional space and personnel comes from the growing awareness among Americans that our food system is in need of change.
“We are seeing a record number of juvenile diabetes, obesity and other health-related issues that are directly linked to our eating habits,” she says. “We have a team of people who really love organic produce, and regardless of their positions here, they are part of a movement that is shifting the health of our citizens.”
