Health Management Associates (HMA), the largest hospital system based in Florida, plans to hire 217 employees in Sarasota over the next two years.
HMA will expand its regional central business office in Sarasota County, which houses all back-office operations including billing, collections and other shared services. In addition to creating more jobs, the expansion will retain nearly 150 positions that are currently filled by Tampa Bay area HMA employees.
“We were considering moving outside the county or relocating to another state, but we decided to stay in Sarasota,” says Alan Levine, president of Florida operations for HMA. “We've been very pleased with the quality of the people we've been able to hire in Sarasota. We love our associates here, they are just great people and they do a great job. The downside of moving would be that we would have lost those people.”
HMA currently employs 50,000 people and operates 71 hospitals in 15 states. According to Levine, the new office in Sarasota will handle back-office operations for those hospitals.
“We will have a variety of positions that need to be filled,” Levine says. “Management, clerical and professional opportunities will be available.”
The jobs will be created over the next two years as the company continues to grow. Part of that growth includes more square footage. Currently, HMA operates out of a 10,000-square-foot office in Venice, however, its new office will be over 28,000 square feet at 101 Arthur Andersen Parkway in Sarasota.
