Local businesses can learn how to save money by going green and receiving the Green Business Partnership Designation.
Pinellas County and the
University of Florida Extension Service are partnering to launch the new program and encourage the incorporation of green practices into local business operations.
Interested participants will receive a self-evaluation checklist and review several key areas of focus including: general business policies, energy conservation, waste reduction and water conservation.
"Our goal is to help businesses reduce their cost on energy and waste, and in the process they're saving natural resources and reducing their carbon footprint," says Mary Campbell, director and urban sustainability agent at Pinellas County Extension Service. Campbell added that the green designation logo will also help companies market their businesses as going green becomes important to more consumers.
After completing the checklist, Pinellas County staff will provide support to help businesses implement the green practices. Once all of the criteria are achieved, the partnership designation will be awarded and the business will be able to use the Green Business Partnership logo to signify its commitment. In addition, the businesses commit to further developing and promoting green awareness practices within their companies through employee training and company policies.
On Tuesday, Dec. 15, Campbell will host a webinar to provide an overview of the program and explain how companies can become green business partners. Registration is $15 and available by clicking
