Thanks to a
$300,000 grant from the
National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) and the Many Experiences, One Spirit
capital campaign from the
Christian Nielsen Endowed Professorship in Film Studies,
Eckerd College will now be able to offer and develop a wider range of courses for its Film Studies majors.
Out of 20 grants awarded by the NEH, Eckerd College is one of only two undergraduate, four-year liberal arts colleges that received the grant.
"An expanded film program will help to attract new students to Humanities courses, will broaden the range of film-related General Education electives, and will provide additional intellectual and cultural opportunities for students and interested members of the local community," says Donald R. Eastman III, president of Eckerd College.
Over the years, Eckerd has steadily expanded its offerings in the Film Studies, and their program is complemented by the
International Cinema Series and the
Environmental Film Festival.
The college's Many Experiences, One Spirit campaign is committed to raise $900,000 to match the NEH Challenge Grant.
