BarCamp Tampa Bay will hold its 4
th annual event on Sept. 24
th in Tampa. The event targets those in the technology field, including web designers, developers, marketers and copy writers. While the event is fairly new to the Tampa Bay region, BarCamps have been held in other areas for many years.
“The idea of BarCamps came out of Silicone Valley a number of years ago,” says Sean Davis, organizer for BarCamp Tampa Bay. “It is important for us to host an annual BarCamp in Tampa because there is so much local talent here. The event gives us a chance to get all of those talented people in technology together for one day every year. ”
The event is known for being unconventional, with no regimented schedule.
“You have options for which sessions you want to attend,” says Davis. “If you select and attend a presentation and a few minutes into it you decide it’s not for you, you can switch sessions. ”
The presentations are given by presenters selected ahead of time. On the day of the event, presenters will choose their room and presentation time. Attendees can decide the morning of the event which presentation they will sit it in on, making it more “attendee-friendly.”
Davis says there is still space available for those interested in attending, and that they can register online at the
BarCamp website. The event is free to attend, however donations are encouraged.
BarCamp will be held on Saturday, Sept. 24, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at KForce, 1001 East Palm Ave. in Tampa.
