Actors looking to perform new roles or work with different companies
should head to the Tampa Unified Auditions for the 2010 through 2011
season. Companies will be there looking for fresh talent.
Auditions
will be held at Hillsborough Community College's Ybor City campus
at the Mainstage Theater on July 31.
This is the Second Annual
Tampa
Unified Auditions hosted by Tampa Bay Area theater companies and
Hillsborough Community
College of Visual and Performing Arts. The participating
theaters are
Gorilla
Theatre,
New American Theater,
Stageworks,
Eckerd Theater Company, Hat Trick Theatre Productions,
Dempsey Stage Company,
SLT Productions,
Early Bird
Dinner Theatre and All Out Rep and Conspiracy Theatre. These
companies are casting for their 2010/2011 season.
"It's not
necessarily the only time that they're casting, it is more of the local
auditions that they're using to cast," says Brian Becker, CEO and
producing artistic
director for New American Theater.
The Tampa Unified
Auditions were started last year by Gorilla Theatre's Bridget Bean. She had the idea that everyone should be involved and she got the auditions up and running. About eight
companies participated.
The auditions benefit the actors
because they can audition for more than one company at a time instead of
going to several auditions, Becker says.
These
auditions are for local talent who have worked in community theaters and
are looking to move up to the professional theaters.
Interested
actors should schedule an audition time at the
New American
Theater website or the
Gorilla Theatre website.
