Taco Bus lovers, say hello to location number four: Adding to the list of Taco Buses throughout the Tampa Bay region, Taco Bus USF will celebrate the grand opening of its space at 2320 E. Fletcher Ave on June 7th.
More than 20 years old, the beloved food truck has become a staple in Tampa Bay with bus locations at
913 E. Hillsborough Ave. in Tampa and
2324 Central Ave. in St. Petersburg; the first storefront location opened in
downtown Tampa in early 2012.
“People really seem to like the whole bus concept,” says Aviva Bowman,
Taco Bus' marketing director. “It's something different to do and we're authentic, but not too authentic -- we're more unique and Mexican than other Americanized versions. Our food is very flavorful, inexpensive and fast.”
Replacing Taco Bus' sister restaurant,
Taqueria Monterrey, at the Fletcher Avenue location, Taco Bus USF will feature the same
menu as the other three locations, including favorites such as conchinita pibil, pollo, barbacoa and various vegan specialties.
One thing the University area “bus” will do differently is offer family-style seating: Long tables where everyone sits together. According to Bowman, there will be a few private booths, but the majority of the space will be taken up by the lengthy tables.
“We figured, with all of the USF students in the area, it will be good camaraderie,” Bowman says. “We'll also be a part of
Bulls Country, giving USF students, faculty and staff a discount if you show your I.D. card.”
Taco Bus USF will be open Sunday through Wednesday from 11 a.m. until 10 p.m. and Thursday through Saturday from 11 a.m. until 4 a.m., featuring summer specialties such as watermelon water. Once in season, cantaloupe water will also be available for a limited time.
Bowman says additional plans to expand are in the works with a build-out strategy through 2014.
