Like Naples to the south,
Venice enforces strict architectural requirements for all new construction and renovations. The island community's downtown is a designated Historic District true to the northern Italian Renaissance style of original Venice. As a result, downtown Venice today appears much as it did in the 1920s. For arts lovers, the Venice Little Theater is tops. The Gulf Coast Community Foundation of Venice is among the state's largest foundations. Venice Beach, where sharks' teeth famously wash ashore, is a short drive from downtown. It also sports one of the best dog beaches anywhere.
